This David Bowie style ballad tells the story of Romeo losing his first love because of actions he took fueled by peer pressure and his weak boyish ego. It’s a story about “the difference between living as a boy and as a man” and takes place on the playground during recess when Romeo was young – allegory for several relationships he would lose to his boyish ways. It took meeting his current fiancé to break the cycle and become a man. The song’s musical accompaniment is dynamic and theatrical featuring Lucas Jack on the piano. The song even breaks into what appears to be a ho-down to play up the silliness of his actions. But it then returns to a somber but epic waltz to remember the reality that Romeo has lost her for good.
lyrics
Intro
This story told across many great lands, about the difference between living as a boy and as a man,
You see I gave it all up for what could’ve been, now the love of my life is gone with the wind.
Verse
Dream woman, do you believe in love at first sight or should I walk by one more time?
See it’s been a long long day, and a lonely lonely night.
It’s been a looking for love, never to find, son of a bitch kind of life.
Then she giggled, blew a kiss made me wiggle.
Heard the voice of a boy say “she’s just a toy. Do something hilarious to impress your friend Ricky, he’s always good for a laugh.”
Pre Chorus
So I placed both of my hands, onto my face, blew like a tornado across the plains.
Chorus
Good bye so long,
My baby’s gone with the wind.
(repeat)
Verse
Lonely, wish I was dead.
Thinking of you.
Wasn’t worth it.
You didn’t deserve it.
Now I’m singing the blues.
Chorus
Good bye so long,
My baby’s gone with the wind.
Eeewww! Whoa no no no!
Breakdown
(random scatting)
Outro
Good bye to my love, the love of my life, goodbye to my beautiful bride.
Good bye to my babies, such a short life, I guess they’ll never go to college,
Cause they’re so gone gone gone gone gone.
Gone with the wind,
Gone with the wind.
